Geofencing API Pricing — 2026 Guide

Geofencing platforms generally price on one of three models. Knowing which one a vendor uses matters more than the headline number, because it determines whether your bill is predictable as you scale.

The Three Pricing Models

1. Per-MTU (Monthly Tracked User)

You pay based on how many unique users you track location for in a month, regardless of how many times you check their location. This rewards frequent checking per user but makes cost hard to forecast — user growth, not usage, drives the bill. Radar is the best-known example, starting at $499/month for its Team tier (10K MTU). See the full Radar breakdown →

2. Per-API-call

You pay for the number of requests made — a point-in-polygon check, a zone lookup — regardless of how many unique users generate them. This is the more predictable model for teams who know their request volume better than their user growth curve. Fencemaker uses this model, starting at $29/month.

3. Flat-tier / seat-based

Common in geofencing tools built for marketing or field-service use cases rather than raw API access — a fixed monthly fee for a bundle of "zones" or team seats, less relevant for developer-integration use cases.

What to Budget For

Usage levelWhat it looks likeWhat matters
Prototype / MVPA few thousand checks/month, testing zonesFree tier limits — geofence count matters here more than call volume
Early productionTens of thousands of API calls/month, growing user baseWhether the free/entry tier caps geofence count, not just calls
ScaleHundreds of thousands+ calls/month, many concurrent zonesWhether pricing requires a sales call to see numbers past a certain tier

Questions to Ask Any Geofencing Vendor Before Committing

  • Is pricing based on tracked users, API calls, or both?
  • Is there a geofence count limit, and does it change by tier?
  • Is enterprise-tier pricing posted, or does it require a sales conversation?
  • Does the SDK require client-side integration, or is it a plain REST API?
  • Is territory/hierarchy grouping built in, or do you build that logic yourself?

Where Fencemaker Fits

Fencemaker prices by API call only — no MTU tracking — with unlimited geofences on every plan, from the free tier (100 checks/day) through $249/month (1M checks/day), with full pricing posted publicly at every tier.
